What did our critic think of JERSEY BOYS at Turner Theater?

JERSEY BOYS at New Theatre Restaurant is a delightful evening out on the town.   The show tells the mostly true story of sixties pop legends Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. This show is an original and fun trip down memory lane with a singing group who offered a unique sound that still resonates almost seventy years later.  JERSEY BOYS was written before almost all the juke box musicals that have overwhelmed the Great White Way today. 

Ryan Vasquez, Cory Jeacoma, Pablo David Laucerica, Andrew Poston, John Leone and Shea Coffman will star in Jersey Boys when the global sensation jukebox musical returns to The Muny this summer.

A juke box musical consists of pre-existing songs which are melded into a script to tell a story.  The songs, in contrast to lyrics and music, which are specifically integrated into a traditional musical’s story, don’t always smoothly transition into the juke box tale.

What did our critic think of JERSEY BOYS at ZACH? JERSEY BOYS is widely regarded as one of the greatest jukebox musicals of all time, praised for its authentic storytelling, strong performances, and iconic music. Typically, I often judge a jukebox musical against my belief that they’re low hanging money making fruit. Some productions of this type of musical are better than others, and some are exceptions. ZACH’s JERSEY BOYS is an exceptional exception.
