Gavin Creel may have been the reason that Audra McDonald decided to play Mama Rose..., but Audra McDonald is the reason that Danny Burstein ended up opposite her as Herbie. He just earned his eighth Tony nomination for his performance in Gypsy.

"We were doing a TV show about three years ago and [Audra] was on the phone between takes and she said, 'There is a role that you'd be so right for...'," he explained to BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge. "Then when I was offered the role, the first text I got was from Audra... it's all her fault!"
