Catskill Mountain Foundation Launches Orpheum Dance Festival

The theater, designed by acclaimed theater architect Hugh Hardy, provides a rare combination of state-of-the-art proscenium dance stage with splendid acoustics. The festival's centerpiece is a performance by the world renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company on May 22, which complements a larger three-week performance residency by Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company (Taylor 2) from May 6 to May 26, 2013.

Ludwig van Beethoven epitomized dedication; he composed thirty-three variations on a single theme he found by an unknown composer. Often times, the people who spend their lives researching the arts are just as dedicated. In his new play, 33 Variations, Moises Kaufman explores the creative process between Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and of the journey taken by present day musicologist Katherine Brandt. Their lives are tied together by Beethoven's growing deafness and Katherine's progression of ALS. Even though they are separated by nearly two centuries, the two creative individuals share an intrinsic love of art and exploration.
