I'm just adding to the chorus of people who loved this movie. For some reason, I had no idea it was going to be a musical, so I was very pleasantly surprised by that.

I left the theater very disappointed. I felt that the storyline which they used was very overdone. I also think they used that storyline of "getting the band back together," in the first and third muppets films. During the film I literally looked at my mother and said "What is the a re-make of the Country Bears using the Muppets?" I felt they could have done no wrong up until now.

Actually I enjoyed that skit it was one of the only Laugh Out Loud moments in the film, but FYI I don't like shows like that. The whole plot should have been worked out in a better way. We didn't see Amy and Jason get married? We didn't see that new muppet do anything but whistle? Wth kind of talent is that? Really they couldn't think up a better skit for him to do in order to end the show. I missed the other hosts of the Muppet show. What was the point of having that kidnapping montage when you only kidnap one person. At least kidnap like 3 or 4 hosts. You mean to tell me that out of the hundreds of hosts that were on the show over the years none of them would come and do a benefit show? Really? Where are Steve Martin, Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews, Rita Moreno, Raquel Welch?

The plot of the first movie was them meeting for the first time. How is that "getting the gang back together" when they haven't even met?

No need. The fact that he "manned up" enough to propose is a good enough plot resolution to that storyline.

As someone who can't whistle I think it's a great talent. It was beautiful and nicely shot. Perfect way to end the show.

Obviously they needed someone who is "today" to appease the producer. None of the people you mention would have pleased her and she would have pulled the show. How many 5-10 year olds have any idea who Rita Moreno and Raquel Welch are? Even if they've seen the Muppet Show episodes it still would probably be meaningless to them. Even Steve Martin and Carol Burnett would be a stretch. Of your list the only person who would probably instantly recognizable is Julie Andrews and mostly because she's done many child-friendly films through her whole career.

I'd like to see it, but can't seem to muster up much enthusiasm. Probably due to my disappointment in Hugo, which was okay, but I didn't get all the gushing over it. Looking forward to War Horse. So far, I think the Best Picture race appears to be between War Horse, Melancholia and Harry Potter. Harry Potter stands a good chance a la Lord of the Rings bolstered by the best reviews of the entire franchise.

If you thought this movie was bad and the Muppets haven't done wrong up until now, clearly you did not see anything after The Muppet Christmas Carol. Now those were bad Muppet movies. Particularly It's A Very Merry Muppet Movie and The Muppets Wizard of Oz.

Saw it Wednesday night and it was the perfect kick off to the holiday season. I thought it was a love letter to anyone who has ever been a fan of The Muppets. I walked out of the theater with a giant grin on my face that lasted the rest of the long weekend.

I love the Muppets, but I found this "love letter," to be an overused Shakespearean sonnet. I also have to agree with you Marianne2, the past few muppets films have been very underwhelming. I think I laughed my way through Muppet Wizard of Oz with Ashanti. I must admit when I found out about her being cast as Dorthy in the Wiz I also had that same hearty chuckle at the ready. That Muppet in Space movie or whatever it is called was equally nauseating.

Made for TV movies such as very very muppet movie and muppet wizard of Oz should not be judged on the same level as theatrical release movies. They were indeed bad, but are not on the same level, production and budget-wise, as theatrical muppet movies. The last one in the Theater, Muppets from Space, was a bit of a dissapointment, but still had it's good moments and it was still better than both of those TV movies combined.

Aw, I like "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas," although I wish they hadn't cut the scene from the first airing that showed Sam the Eagle dancing at rave (complete with glo-stick and pacifier!)



I didn't love The Muppets, although I don't begrudge anyone who did. I thought it started strong and ended strong, but the middle really dragged. And I thought Chris Cooper's rap was the absolute nadir of the whole damn thing.

A LOT was cut out of the Cooper rap. There's a whole backstory singing element in the actual song on the album, and I guess they felt Tex didn't need it? I donno. But yes, I hated the rap in the film.

Upon first viewing, I had similar thoughts. I thought the beginning and end were fantastic, and the middle kinda dragged, that changed with the second viewing. I thinks its consistently well placed. The small problems with the film, for me, make it a Muppet film. They all have their problems, yes even the first 3 movies, and that's what makes them so endearing. They have moments of perfection sprinkled throughout.. but they can't be completely perfect. There has to be something off about it to be a real Muppets movie. At least that's what I've always though.

Just saw it today on a day off. It was adorable. The only weakness was my own doing - I saw too many clips of the movie before seeing the movie!

I thought it was well done. I want a chicken muppet.

I thought Letters to Santa was actually pretty decent (and nice to have Paul Williams writing Muppet songs again), but Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie was pretty awful--and of course neither was as great as Muppet Family Chritsmas (I wish we could get the uncut version of that properly released again). And I thought Muppet/Oz was *dismal*--such a let down coming from a big Oz fan. But I suppose it isn't fair to compare TV to theatrical (though, as flawed as it was, I prefered much of the Muppets Tonight show to those two specials).

I still think this Muppet Movie was heads and shoulders above the last three (I get the sentiment many have for Muppet Christmas Carol but I'm fairly mixed on it).

The film has already made $56.1 million here in North America against its $45 million budget, but it still needs to make more to really turn a profit. However, it fell 62% this weekend. I think we should encourage our friends to see it over the holidays.

Hopelessly sad to see Muppets getting NO nominations at the Golden Globes. No musical/comedy nom (when it's the DEFINITION of Musical Comedy), and not a single song nom either. Where's the felt-love from the Hollywood Foreign Press?
